Introduction
Two new hospitals, part of a £40 million development by hub North Scotland on behalf of NHS Highland, will serve the Isle of Skye, Lochalsh and Southwest Ross, as well as Aviemore and the surrounding area.
The Project
Broadford hospital, located on the shore of Broadford Bay in Skye, will have 24 ensuite in-patient rooms, as well as a midwife-led community maternity unit, an accident and emergency unit, a dental surgery, an X-ray/ultrasound unit, and an infusion suite.
Badenoch & Sprathspey Community Hospital, built on a nine-acre park in Dalfaber, is the first to be built in the Cairngorm National Park. The new hospital has 24-ensuite in-patient bedrooms, 12-consulting treatment rooms and a minor injuries unit along with dental and x-ray facilities. It also provides accommodation for the Aviemore GP practice, physiotherapy and occupational therapy services, chemotherapy, a midwife service, and an ambulance base.
Vistamatic
Vistamatic provided 53 privacy vision panels to doorset supplier Dorsuite for the combined hospital builds.
The privacy vision panels were needed in patient bedroom and side doors. A mixture of 250 x 800 FD30 fire rated and non-fire rated vision panels were used. The vision panels were required to be operable from one side, with an easy mode of operation. A lever handle was best suited to operate the vision panel as the handles are chromium plated, easy to clean and suited for either hand or elbow operation.
